Garfield Vs Everyone | Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu 2nd Season Episode 14, 15, & 16 Review

Man, did I miss this anime. I was behind a lot of anime this season mainly due to college and now I finally have time to watch the amazing anime of Re:Zero. As this series was at the very top of my watchlist. Now that I can I have a plan to watch three episodes a day and make a post after. I plan to do this with another series that should come soon also. So expect a lot of Re:Zero content soon. Now that I got all the boring stuff out of the way let us talk about Re:Zero Season 2 Part 2 Episodes 14, 15, and 16.

3 Hopes For The Second Half of The Season

I don’t know when we will get a season 3 of this anime. So before I watch these three episodes and eventually the whole season. I want to write down three hopes that I want by the end of this season. Starting with me wanting to see Rem open her eyes and wake up. I really believe that this season should end with one of my best girls in anime returning. Second on the list being some more information about Satella and her relationship with Subaru and Emilia. She was so interesting to me during last season I just need to know more. Finally I want Subaru to make Beatrice happy by the end of this season. I can leave this anime very happy if I can get at least two of these at the end of the season. Now onto the episodes.

Episode 14: Bet

This return episode was enjoyable to me. As it started with a bet that Subaru made with Roswaal. As we find out last season that Roswaal was the one that set up all of these horrible scenarios against Subaru. So with a new resolve from Satella and all of the other witches, he decided to make a Bet with Roswaal. It being if Subaru finds a way to basically save everyone from the sanctuary and in the mansion. Then Roswaal will have to throw away his book and fully aid Emillia on her path to the throne. With that bet made, Roswaal gave Subaru three days until the bunnies of snow came and ended the sanctuary.

Afterwards we got some moments between Emilia & Subaru that I liked. We learn the reason that Emilia wants the title of queen. Being so that Roswaal will use his fire magic to free the people out of the ice. As they were frozen for a long time similar to her. They talk some more and she goes to sleep. Puck then wakes Emilia up to break their contract with her in order for Emilia to gain her memories. Leading to an event of Emilia running away earlier after being saddened by Puck leaving. Along with being mad at Subaru as she left her alone in the bed despite saying that he would stay with her until the morning to do something important. Ending the episode with him meeting Emilia with tears in her eyes feeling betrayed by everyone that she loves.

Also this episode we have to deal with another challenge being Garfield. As we got some information from one of the millions of Shima and she gives a little bit of information about Garfiel and his reasons against the wall opening.

Episode 15: Otto’s Past / Kiss

This episode was split into two short episodes. As the first half was about Otto and how he became a merchant. As we learn from this past that he can listen to animals. As that was a gift/ curse given at birth. Leading him to a point in life where he exposed the daughter of a noble in his home. Making him have to run away and become a merchant. Later meeting Subaru. It was a good backstory on him. I just wonder if we will meet his family or the nobles that exiled him in the future. After the flashback we get in the fight of the year being Otto vs Garfield. Really it being Otto running for his life. Using tricks everywhere until he is against the ropes.

Then REM THE SAVAGE comes through. Gives a little sh*t talking to Otto then when Garfiled went beast mode. Ram smiled and punched the heck out of him until she was too weak to do it anymore. I just want to show some appreciation towards Ram as I just love her character for just being a savage every chance she can. But, back the story as she is out of power Garfield defeats them both. Heading towards Subaru and Emilia.

Now this was a good moment between them. I like the back and forth between them and the kiss. That he better give Rem in the future of the series. The episode ends with Garfeild coming and the both of them are ready to face him.

Episode 16: The Frozen Witch

This episode we learn all about Garfield’s past and how he got the scare on his forehead. I lowkey did laugh when he was doing it as Shima was trying to stop him. But, it did work and I was just laughing during that moment. After that we have a confrontation between Garfield and Subaru. As the only way to get anything through Garfield’s skull is to beat it out of him. So they fight.

So Subaru did that with the help of Puck(Which makes me wonder does Puck and Subaru have a contract now. As we never got the end of their conversation). Along with the new ability that Subaru has, being the unseen hands abilities. He is able to defeat Garfield. Along with a talk with Ram who talks sense into him. Garfield then learns about his mother who he thought abandoned him but actually loved him. But, was looking for his father before she died and Garfield blamed himself for it. Giving the fourteen year old Garfield closure and is now finally on our side.

Now that that is settled, all that is left is to free the people out of the sanctuary. With motivation and people behind her, Emilia is ready to face it again with a stronger resolve. She then meets Echidna who is just being very aggressive towards her. Calling her every name in the book. But, Emilia the FROZEN WITCH is proud and not faltering ready to take on the trial. With the Subaru pose that made my whole day.

Overall Thoughts On The Three Episodes

I liked these three episodes overall. I liked the backstories of Garfield and Otto. I enjoyed the little moments between Subura and Emilia and I hope for more of that for REM in the future. There is a lot of stuff that I am thinking about that might be answered soon like Puck and why him and Subaru are together now. Along with Emilia’s knowledge on that. The Frozen With title that they just threw in at the end of the episode was interesting. I can’t wait to learn all about that. Roswaal was great in the beginning and finally Ram is 100 percent pure Savage and I love it.

Final Thoughts

It really took me this long just to do three episodes. I really forget that this anime is one that has so much dialogue and tidbits that mean so much later on in the series. I really want to watch more episodes after these three. But, I have to stick to the three episodes a day or I will get burned out. So thanks everyone for taking the time out of your day to read this. Follow me on twitter @SakeDez, and all that good stuff. Until next time be great.

Echidna must have been really salty about her screen time I see.

  1. Hi, Dez Polycarpe. I’ve been wondering why you’ve been posting less lately. I hope college hasn’t been too rough on you. I’ll just the post the thoughts I had about the episodes as they happened back after they aired.

I am very leery of what Roswaal might have planned for Subaru with his bet given Roswaal said it’s not a bad idea to lay some groundwork for next time, which indicates Roswaal thinks that the bet he and Subaru made will affect Subaru in the next loop, which will be something Subaru has never experienced before, having a consequence from a previous loop directly inconvenience him in the next loop. Roswaal would never lay groundwork for Subaru to beat him in the next loop, so it’s clear Roswaal is indicating he is laying some groundwork for himself. I have previously stated my theory of souls and soul scents before, and now I am going to post an updated version I believe is immediately relevant to what could possibly happen.

As you recall from episode 18 of Re:zero, Petelgeuse indicated that in death, he would be reunited with the Witch, which indicates there’s an afterlife and strongly indicates the presence of souls in Re:zero. Arbiter Melakuera indicated there was reincarnation in Re:zero in the Re:zero OVAs, which is a second instance that suggests that there are souls in Re:zero. Season 2 confirmed that souls are a thing in a Re:zero when Echidna indicated that her soul was trapped in the Witch’s Graveyard in the afterlife. As we all know, the Witch has a very foul smell given what we know of Subaru and Witch cultists, and I speculate that the reason they reek of her scent is because her soul smells horrible considering that her body is very likely sealed and should have no biological function. This suggests that Subaru and Witch cultists have their souls bonded to Satella, the Witch of Envy’s soul, and that is the source of the smell. I’m now getting to my point. I believe that the first step of Return by Death involves resetting time, restoring Subaru’s body and resetting to a previous point in time and that when Subaru dies, his soul goes to the afterlife, and the reason Subaru smells more strongly of the Witch after a death is because of increased exposure to the Witch. This suggests that the soul does not reset with Return by Death, or else he wouldn’t smell more strongly of the Witch after a death. This also suggests the soul is the reason Subaru retains his memories from previous lives since his brain shouldn’t remember anything since it is straight up restored to its previous state, meaning the second step of Return by Death is sending Subaru’s soul back into his restored body. As for why Subaru can’t remember spending time with Satella in the afterlife, remember when Echidna forced Subaru to forget that he had met her after her first tea party with him? That shows that the Witches of Sin have the power to do that and would explain why Subaru wouldn’t remember meeting Satella.

So if Roswaal and Subaru’s bet somehow has a mandatory effect on the soul, then Subaru would be forced to do whatever Roswaal wishes even after a death because Return by Death does not reset the soul. This could have some very huge implications if this is indeed what Roswaal has in mind. I hope Subaru can actually win on this loop, as otherwise, I think he might be in for another mental breakdown if he is forced to choose either the Sanctuary or the mansion in the next loop against his will if he fails during this current loop.

I like that Subaru said that Emilia could dodge his kiss unlike the one-sided kisses that are popular in other series.

Ram started bleeding from her horn area, and I’m guessing that because she no longer has a horn that if she tries to use her demon powers, she’ll bleed from there. I remember back in Season 1 when Roswaal touched her horn area, saying something like she expended a lot of mana and that he was going to tend to her, so maybe her horn area after the Ulgarm fight was feeling tender or stressed out from exertion. In Season 1, I thought what he was doing had a sexual purpose because of Ram’s reaction to it.

Remember when Felix told Subaru to refrain from using magic for 2 months? I think that huge glass shattering imagery may have been Subaru’s gate breaking. I don’t know what it would take to heal it, but I don’t think he’ll be using any magic for a while.

    1. Sup Vance. College has not been the best. But, I am making it through. As always I appreciate your thoughts one the series as it makes me think and opens my eyes to things that I missed previously. As for your theory, I do remember the facts about Subaru’s soul gaining its smell in the afterlife. And if it is like you said Roswaal can find a way to hold Subaru to the bet after death that would be crazy and dark.

Also that was a good jester to give her a chance to doge unlike most series cough* SAO cough*. Ram’s thing with her horn is interesting as well. As I thought in season one that Roswaal was doing something to slowly restore her horn. I can see that making sense as the power to use the unseen hands threw me off completely. Overall I am happy to watch this series again though. The plan is to watch three episodes at a time so I should catch up soon. Thanks again for the comment.

      1. Although what Subaru is using is similar to Petelgeuse’s Unseen Hand, I think there was a reason he called it Invisible Providence. His one hand comes from the front of his body while Petelgeuse’s hands come from his back, which I would think maybe makes Subaru’s harder to control. It’s also unclear whether there are any more differences between them.
